Announcements for February 3


Beginning Monday, February 4th at 6:00pm our pastors will be offering a class entitled “Making Life Better.”  In this class, you will see how God has made your life better by reviewing your past, changing your present and transforming your future.  This course covers the basic truths of the Christian faith and is offered to newcomers and long-time Christians alike. There is a brochure in your pew that you can hand out to invite your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. Tuesday Teen Night is an opportunity for the youth of our congregation to gather together for worship and fellowship. We invite anyone who is currently enrolled in Catechism class or has been confirmed to a special worship service at 6:00pm on Tuesdays. Youth from Faith, Faith Hmong and Iglesia Luterana and their friends are enjoying this gathering—we hope you can make it, too!

Join us for Toddler Time on Wednesdays at 10:00am! Toddler Time is an hour of multi-sensory play, stories, and snacks for children ages 0 to 5 years and their parents. Contact Cara Ewings at (907) 792-9388 for more information. 

It’s time for our annual “Mission of Love” fundraiser for the Central Africa Medical Mission!  This year it will be on Sunday, February 10th.  Plan on joining us for breakfast prior to Bible study and Sunday school.  Baked goods and hand-crafted items will be available before and after worship.  For more information contact Joy Bromaghin at 440-1702.

Men’s Bible Study will meet at 9:00am on Saturday, February 9th at Barbie’s CafĂ© (6728 Lake Otis Pkwy). By popular demand, we’re taking a tour of the Minor Prophets with a Bible study we’ve called “Sound bytes of the Old Testament.” We will be discussing the Book of Amos chapter 4.  All are welcome and invited! 

Faith Alive Bible Study Groups meet this week! These Bible study groups are designed to promote vibrant life in Christ, all from the comfort of your own home! The Brooks and Wockenfuss families are our hosts for the first series of studies called “Gifted” based on 1 Corinthians 12 to 15.

Who’s ready for spring break? A group of high schoolers from MLHS is! Michigan Lutheran High School is sending up a team of 6-8 students over spring break to help us reach out to our community for Easter. They will be arriving at the end of March and staying through the first week of April.  If you are able to help with hosting, please contact us at office@faithalaska.com.

Who’s thinking about summer? This summer we will have plenty of opportunities for the children of our congregation and our community. We have four week-long camps:
June 17-21 STEM Camp
June 24-28 Soccer Camp                
July 8-12 Outdoor Adventure Camp
July 14-18 Camp Luther
We have four different groups of helpers coming up from the Lower 48 for these camps. If you are able to provide housing for a few of these individuals during one or more of these events, please contact Pastor Chris at (907) 792-9788.

Faith Lutheran School is hosting an Open House this Saturday, January 26th, from 2:00 to 5:00pm. Invite your friends and neighbors who may be looking for high quality education to take a tour of the classrooms and meet our teachers and staff. Come and help us welcome the community to our campus.

Faith's Annual Ice-Fishing Outing. The Fellowship Committee invites you to grab your fishing license and ice-fishing gear and join us at Sand Lake on February 2nd at 10:00am. If you don't have ice fishing equipment, some will be available to borrow. Be sure to dress warmly!

Miss Mittelstadt has received a divine Call to serve as Director at First Steps Early Learning Center in La Crescent, MN. This is an opportunity for her to deliberate where the Holy Spirit can best use her abilities, either here in Anchorage, or in La Crescent. The District Pastors’ Missionary Conference is January 28 to 30 in Washington and Pastors Chris and Nate will be attending. The focus is on outreach and our mission to share Christ in our local community. Thank you to those who donated miles or funds so that our pastors can share ideas, resources and encouragement with other pastors to use in our own mission field right here in Anchorage.

We’d love to see your kids in Sunday School! Bring your preschool to 6th grade children at 9:07am to hear the stories from the Bible and learn God’s Word.  If you are interested in teaching for a few weeks during the coming months, please speak with Valerie Koenig or one of the pastors.

Announcements for December 30, 2018


Join us at Faith on December 31 for New Year’s worship. Come on Monday at 6:00pm and reflect on what it means to live every day in the name of Jesus. Amid change and the passing of time, God has placed His name on us, and that blessing is constant. Come meditate on God’s everlasting consistency in our ever changing lives. We will celebrate Holy Communion at this special service.

On Saturday, January 5th at 4 pm, Faith will be hosting Epiphany by Candlelight. The women of our church and area WELS churches—as well as neighbors, friends, and any women who would like a peaceful break after the craziness of the holidays —are invited to celebrate with us. If you are able, please RSVP through Facebook Messenger or by speaking with Cara Ewings or Joy Bromaghin. See you there!
To celebrate Epiphany on January 6th we will have a Sharing Faith Worship Service at 10:30am for the English and Spanish speaking people of Faith.  After the worship service, all are welcome and invited to a potluck lunch  Bring a dish to share or just bring yourself.  We pray that you are able to join us!

Small Group Bible Studies will begin in 2019! In the ministry plan that we adopted as a congregation, the vision reads, “To be alive in Christ, we will be nurtured by the Gospel and loved and encouraged by one another.” One way we will accomplish this is by adding a Bible study component to our ministry called, “Faith Alive.” These Bible study groups are designed to promote vibrant life in Christ, all from the comfort of your own home! These Bible studies will meet on a regular basis for short periods of time—between 4-6 weeks. If you are interested in attending or hosting a Bible study, please speak with one of the pastors or write your name on the sign up sheet in the fellowship hall.

Announcements for December 16, 2018


My Son, My Savior is the title of a movie produced by the same team that brought us Road to Emmaus and Come Follow Me. My Son, My Savior is about the coming, life and ministry of Jesus told from the perspective of his mother Mary. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:07 during Advent for a Bible study based on this movie. You will be blessed and encouraged to strive to live for God out of grateful love for the love He first showed us through His Son and our Savior, Jesus.

Midweek Advent services continue on Wednesday, December 19. We will have two services, one at 3:00pm and an identical service at 6:30pm. In the early service, we especially invite the children and parents of Faith Lutheran School. There will be a soup supper before the evening service beginning at 6:00pm. The theme for our midweek Advent services is “What Child Is This” as we marvel in God’s gift to us in His Son, our Savior, Jesus. All are welcome and invited to attend either service. Come hear the good news of great joy for you!

Faith Lutheran School’s Christmas Program, “What Child is This?,” will be held this Thursday, December 20 at 6:30pm in the recital hall at the UAA Fine Arts Building. Come and join us as we marvel at the mystery of the Word made flesh!

Come celebrate Christmas with us! We will have three different worship services to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  Our Christmas Eve service will be at 6:00pm with a candlelight service at 10:00pm. On Christmas Day, we will worship at 10:00am with Holy Communion. Each service will be distinct and divine as God blesses us with His presence!

Who’s ready for a youth group lock-in?! It’s time again for our Christmas Break Lock-In! Put it on your schedule: Thursday, December 27th from 9:00pm to 9:00am Friday morning. Bible study, games, movies, snacks and a delicious breakfast will be provided. Bring your favorite games, movies, snacks and drinks and sleeping gear but—most importantly—bring a friend! Due to the earthquake and the resulting messes and transportation difficulties, we decided to postpone Advent by Candlelight. We are tentatively rescheduling it for January 5th and making it Epiphany by Candlelight. We hope to see you there!

Want to share Christmas greetings with those far and near?  Our convenient Caring Card Corner has Christmas cards in addition to cards for other occasions.  See the turnstile in the Fellowship Hall by the bookcase.  Cards are $1 each on the honor system.  One envelope per card, please.
