Announcements for December 9, 2018

My Son, My Savior is the title of a movie produced by the same team that brought us Road to Emmaus and Come Follow Me. My Son, My Savior is about the coming, life and ministry of Jesus told from the perspective of his mother Mary. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:07 during Advent for a Bible study based on this movie. You will be blessed and encouraged to strive to live for God out of grateful love for the love He first showed us through His Son and our Savior, Jesus.

Tuesday Teen Night is an opportunity for the youth of our congregation to gather together for worship and fellowship. We invite anyone who is currently enrolled in Catechism class or has been confirmed to a special worship service at 6:00pm on Tuesdays. Youth from Faith, Faith Hmong and Iglesia Luterana and their friends are enjoying this gathering—we hope you can make it, too!

Join us for Toddler Time on Wednesdays at 10:00am! Toddler Time is an hour of multi-sensory play, stories, and snacks for children ages 0 to 5 years and their parents. Please contact Cara Ewings (792-9388), for more information.

Midweek Advent services continue on Wednesday, December 12. We will have two services, one at 3:00pm and an identical service at 6:30pm. In the early service, we especially invite the children and parents of Faith Lutheran School. There will be a soup supper before the evening service beginning at 6:00pm. The theme for our midweek Advent services is “What Child Is This” as we marvel in God’s gift to us in His Son, our Savior, Jesus. All are welcome and invited to attend either service. Come hear the good news of great joy for you!

Faith Lutheran School and Preschool will host a bake sale on Thursday, December 13th, noon to 4:00pm.  The sale will also be next Sunday before and after the 10:30am service.  What a great opportunity to stock up on some goodies for Christmastime.  If you have any questions or would like to donate items please contact Sheila Lillo at 907-229-7901, or Sheila.Lillo@gmail.com.

Faith Lutheran School’s Christmas Program, “What Child is This?,” will be held on Thursday, December 20 at 6:30pm in the recital hall at the UAA Fine Arts Building. Come and join us as we marvel at the mystery of the Word made flesh!

Come celebrate Christmas with us! We will have three different worship services to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  Our Christmas Eve service will be at 6:00pm with a candlelight service at 10:00pm. On Christmas Day, we will worship at 10:00am with Holy Communion. Each service will be distinct and divine as God blesses us with His presence!

Due to the earthquake and the resulting messes and transportation difficulties, we decided to postpone Advent by Candlelight. We are tentatively rescheduling it for January 5th and making it Epiphany by Candlelight. We hope to see you there!
Want to share Christmas greetings with those far and near?  Our convenient Caring Card Corner has Christmas cards in addition to cards for other occasions.  See the turnstile in the Fellowship Hall by the bookcase.  Cards are $1 each on the honor system.  One envelope per card, please.

This year each Alaskan resident received free money that they neither worked for nor earned. $1,600 was given to us by the state as "our share" of the oil that God put in the earth. How much we have received! And, of course you know that the dollars we received are nothing at all compared to the greater spiritual riches that God pours out on us every day! We receive full forgiveness for every sin. We receive His Holy Spirit that brings us to faith. We receive the Word of God with all of its promises which sustain and strengthen that faith. We haven't done a thing to earn any of those greater gifts. How much we have received!
Considering all of God's rich gifts to us, we can't help but be moved to sincere gratitude that longs to thank God for all of His rich blessings! Having received so much, we're eager to give back to God a portion of all that's He's blessed us with to express our thanks to Him. Could you part with that portion of your PFD to help share the Gospel with more people and make an eternal impact? Consider using some of what our God has so graciously and generously given to support the work of His Kingdom.
