Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Relocation plans are underway to move Pastor Nate Wagenknecht, his wife Julia, and two children to Alaska. We expect their arrival in the first week or so of October. The family's current circumstances preclude them from purchasing a home in Anchorage prior to their arrival and they'll begin a home search in earnest once they're here.
In the meantime they'll need temporary housing for some weeks or months. They will need a two bedroom apartment or home and some amount of storage for household goods that don't fit in the living space. Storage and living space don't necessarily need to be at the same property.
My ask is this: Can any of you provide a temporary living space? Can anyone provide a storage space? Can you provide either at a reduced rental rate? Can anyone provide financial assistance to give them a leg up on a down payment? Do you know someone who may be in a position to help?
What a great opportunity to serve the Lord's church and this family of servants! I pray that one or some of you may be able to respond to this request. If this is a possibility please contact Jeff Wockenfuss or myself:
Jeff Wockenfuss: jeff.wockenfuss@gmail.com or 907-952-2389
Jim Aumann: uberjima@gmail.com or 907-223-2854
God's blessings to each and every one of you!

“I would like to extend a thank you to the members of Faith Lutheran Church and the families of Faith Lutheran School for giving me such a warm welcome to Alaska. Thank you for all your encouraging words and help as I made the transition up to Anchorage and for your generous gifts. I am incredibly blessed to live and work with all of you. To God alone be glory!”  In Christ, Heidi Kruger

We’d love to see your kids in Sunday School! Bring your preschool to 6th grade children at 9:07am to hear the stories from the Bible and learn God’s Word.  If you are interested in teaching for a few weeks during the coming months, please speak with Pastor Chris.

Beginning on Monday, September 10th at 6:00pm Pastor Chris will be offering a class entitled “Making Life Better.”  In this class, you will see how God has made your life better by reviewing your past, changing your present and transforming your future.  This course covers the basic truths of the Christian faith and is offered to newcomers and long-time Christians alike.  Come marvel at what God has done for you!  Contact Pastor Chris at 792-9788 for more information. Faith Lutheran Church and Schools will remain founded on Holy Scripture. To be alive in Christ, we will be nurtured by the Gospel and loved and encouraged by one another. With vibrant life in Him, we will be edified to organize and grow cohesive Gospel ministries. To share life in Christ, our ministries will be outward focused, and we will be involved with and engaged in the community of Anchorage, Alaska.

We will be hosting an Underwater Adventure for toddlers to 10 year olds on Saturday, September 15th from 10-12pm. We would love to see both school and church families at this event. We are looking for a few volunteers to help prep snacks the morning of the event, socialize with visitors during the event, and clean up after the event. If you are able to help out in any way, please contact Melissa Mittelstadt at faithlutheranpreschoolak@gmail.com.

Faith Lutheran’s Summer Camps were a huge success this year! Did you know that we had 92 kids attend STEM Camp, 86 in Soccer Camp and 75 in Outdoor Adventure Camp? Did you know that only a handful of these students who attended are children of our congregation? Did you know that we also made a significant profit—almost $7,000? Because of that, we would like to give back to the groups that came to Alaska to help us. They paid their own way, donating their time and money to support our ministry. This will be our last Sunday taking a freewill donation to show them our thanks. Please consider contributing to this cause.

The 2018 WELS Women’s Retreat is September 21st - 22nd in Wasilla.  Time is running out!  If you haven’t registered yet, please send your payment to King of Kings Lutheran Church or register online at: https://tinyurl.com/y937zvzt.  Brochures are available in the entryway for more information.

Men’s Bible Study will meet at 9:00am on Saturday, October 13th at Barbie’s Café (6728 Lake Otis Pkwy). By popular demand, we’re taking a tour of the Minor Prophets with a Bible study we’ve called “Sound bytes of the Old Testaments.” We will be discussing the Book of Habakkuk chapter 2.  All are welcome and invited!

Announcements for September 2, 2018

Dear Mr. Aumann, and brothers and sisters at Faith Lutheran Church,
After much prayerful deliberation, I formally accept the Divine Call you extended me in the name of our Triune God to serve as Associate Pastor for your bilingual ministries. This time of deliberation allowed me to evaluate the ministry needs of two very important and exciting ministries. I have gone to God’s Word for guidance and asked for the Holy Spirit’s enlightenment. I have sought and received wise, insightful advice from brothers and sisters involved in both ministries. Through such deliberation and counsel, I have decided that my Spirit-given gifts can be used best by serving at this time in our Lord’s kingdom at Faith Lutheran Church and School and Iglesia Luterana de Fe en Cristo.
You are placing great confidence in me, and I recognize that it is a high privilege to represent Christ to his people in the public ministry. I, therefore, humbly ask you to continue praying for me as you have been doing. Serving in the parish will be a shift from my current ministry, but my confidence is in Christ and his promise to make us competent for the service to which he calls us in his grace. Please continue to pray for the ministry of Multi-Language Publications (MLP), my co-laborers there whom I love, and the mission fields and souls MLP serves throughout the world.
I thank God for your flexibility to allow for a smooth transition within the MLP program. I look forward to working with you on details and logistics for our move. Please know that my wife Julia, our children Mateo and Natalia, and I intend to arrive in Anchorage before the first snowfall – God willing. Once the details of our move are established, we can make arrangements for my installation.
To God alone the glory!
With you, alive in Christ to share life in Christ,
Rev. Nathan Wagenknecht

Announcements from February 19th

Congregational Meeting - February 26th, next Sunday following the service, we will be holding a Congregation Meeting to discuss calling a Vicar. The Board for Lay Ministry (BLM) has been discussing this for the past several months and feels strongly that this is a step needed to help with Pastor Ewings’ workload and support the ministry work here at Faith. The deadline for the application is fast approaching and we need to make a decision quickly or we will have to wait for another year. The BLM unanimously voted to call a Vicar and we are requesting approval by the Congregation. Please make every effort to attend and voice your opinion.

To my family in the faith at Faith Lutheran Church-
On Sunday, February 5, I received a divine Call to serve as the youth and family pastor at St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minnesota. A Call is a job opportunity, but more than that; it is the Lord of the Church speaking through His people to proclaim the Good News of Jesus’ Gospel. I now have the opportunity to accept the Call to Minnesota or to decline the Call and stay in Alaska.  Either way, the Gospel will be proclaimed for God’s greatest glory.
As I deliberate the two Calls which I hold—the Call you have extended to me to serve as the pastor of Faith Lutheran Church and Iglesia Luterana de Fe en Cristo in Anchorage and now another to serve as a youth and family pastor in St. Peter—I ask for your prayers.  I welcome your wisdom and insight as well, and I look forward to speaking with you about the ministry the Lord has entrusted to our care. As you pray for me, I want you to know that I will likewise bring my prayers before the throne of our God in Heaven, asking Christ Jesus to bless His Church.  I know that the Lord will provide for His people as He has promised.  May the Lord richly bless all we do for Him and for His glory!
Pastor Christopher R. Ewings

Women's Retreat - Plans for the women’s retreat this fall are well underway.  Faith is hosting the retreat this year and we will need volunteers to help with the organizing and planning.  The next meeting is February 23rd at 6:00pm.

Teen Neon Bowling February 24thAll teens are welcome and invited to participate in neon bowling at Diamond Center bowling from 6:30-8:45. Wear your best neon attire.  Please be sure you bring at least $15. For two hours of neon bowling and shoe rental it costs $10. Bowlers may purchase soda and snacks if they want to; it will not be provided.  Please RSVP to Miss Melissa Mittelstadt at (262) 623-4908.

Midweek Lenten services begin March 1st. During our midweek services, we will focus on the Sacrifice that our Savior made for us as we examine the Old Testament sacrifices and how they point ahead to Jesus.  A soup supper will precede each midweek service at 6:00 and worship will begin at 7:00.

The Women of Faith Lutheran Church have taken on the task of organizing a list of volunteers to help provide some much needed aid to members of our congregation.  We are in the process of compiling a list of people who can provide meals, transportation, yard care,  housework, make errands, visit or read for those who are sick, had recent surgeries or any other life altering circumstance.  To get this list going we need the names of volunteers willing to help.  If you are willing to have your name added to this list of volunteers please contact the office at office@faithalaska.com or 563-3499.
We also need to know when someone is in need.  If you or someone you know could benefit from this, please contact Pastor Ewings, Kathy Hester, or Linda Stiffler.
